HOOPERS – COME ONE, COME ALL AND HOOP INDOORS (and perhaps learn other fun skills too!) at BOSTON UNIVERSITY (BU)
***WHERE: The Sargent Activities Center of Boston University (located at 1 University Road in Boston). This is the place where the Monday night practices will be held for poi spinners, hoopers, and other folks interested in object manipulation / dancing / being fun and a bit odd. It is an official space (thanks to Chad Bennett) so we do not have to worry about getting kicked out.
All sessions are free! Again hoopers are heartily welcomed (as is anyone else who wants to learn to spin and play with objects like poi, hoops, darts, staff, etc etc etc). There is plenty of space for everyone. No experience necessary.
***WHEN:
Here are the dates and times of the Monday evening poi/hoop/dart/staff/whatever else open jam classes:
Monday, January 21st 6:30 – 9:00
Monday, January 28th 7:00 – 9:00
Monday, February 4th 7:00 – 9:00
Monday, February 11th 6:30 – 9:00
Monday, February 18th – NO CLASS
***HOW (Directions):
*You can see exactly where the Sargent Activities Center on this online BU map:
www.bu.edu/maps/index.php
*By subway:
The nearest T stop is Boston University Central. This is on the B branch of the green subway line of the T.
*Please remember - only the B branch of the green line goes to this stop (the C, D and E branches of the green line do not).* So make sure there is a big B on the front of the green line subway car that you get on. Map of the T subway at www.mbta.com/schedules_and_maps/subway/
*Driving:
First off, print out the BU map above.
If you are driving, I would personally recommend to park at a spot with a parking meter; that way you know it is a legitimate spot. There are spots with meters on Commonwealth Avenue (which is also Route 20 if you’re looking at a map of Boston).
The meters in Boston are in effect until *8pm* and *only* accept quarters (1 quarter = 15 minutes, with a 2 hour max).
So bring plenty of quarters if you are driving, and use the print out of the BU map to walk to the Sargent Center.
Hooray - this will be fun!

Re: Free winter hooping sessions at Boston University!
Wed, January 16, 2008 - 9:56 AMI have gone to many of these things. The people are awesome, and it is a great way to branch out into the other performance arts... (i.e. I have started doing staff). There is even a tribe for this class if you want more direct information... i.e. The BU spin Jam...
I am planning to go as much as possible, and I would love it if you guys would come to...

Re: Free winter hooping sessions at Boston University!
Fri, March 7, 2008 - 9:45 PMBy the way, these sessions continue all year 'round. Check the BU spin jam tribe for details, but they will pretty much be at the Sargent Activities Center at BU on Monday nights....
The exception is when Mondays are holidays, in which case we usually have an 'unofficial' BU session at the BU arts building at 855 Commonwealth Avenue (we're always in one of the 1st floor studios like room 106 - but check them all)..
